Lakuti

Lerato Khathi, known globally as Lakuti, is a multifaceted force in electronic music. Hailing from Soweto, South Africa, her early immersion in jazz, funk, and soul paved the way for a deep connection to the house and techno sounds of Chicago, Detroit, and New York. As a Panorama Bar resident, DJ, producer, educator, and head of the Uzuri artist agency and label, her passion extends profoundly into both musical and political spheres.

During a transformative era in London (1997–2012), Lakuti co-founded the Sued Electronic label and its legendary cult parties. In 2007, she established Uzuri Recordings, subsequently launching an agency dedicated to creating vital opportunities for Black artists.

Today, Lakuti is an internationally revered DJ and curator. Alongside Tama Sumo, she hosts the acclaimed Bring Down The Walls and Your Love events at Berghain / Panorama Bar, championing the Black and LGBTQI+ communities. With an output spanning vocal collaborations, a celebrated co-remix for The Knife, and an Ostgut Ton release, Lakuti remains a vital, critical voice strengthening the foundations of dance music.
